Abstract
The C-reactive protein (CRP) is a pathological protein, or rather lipoprotein, reacting with nontype¡©specific pneumococcal somatic C polysaccharide in the presence of calcium ions, or with a CRP antiserum,
It occurs in human serum during the acute or early phase of various inflammatory and infectious disea¡©ses, necrosis and neoplasmas, and disappears at the end of the acute phase. Its presence was discovered by Tillett and Francis (1930) in an investigation of antigenic components of the penumococci. The CRP was isolated and purified by MacLeod and Avery in 1941. By injecting the purified protein in rabbits, an antiserum is obtained (CRPA). It is probably in a-globulin, consisting of at least 2 components, and its production is stimulated by bacterial infections, various pyrogenic agents (typhoid vaccine), or the products of injured tissue (as in myocardial infarction). Detection of CRP is widely used in clinical laboratory diagnosis as a possible indication of persisting pathologic activity. It is precipitated specific¡©ally by antiserum against CRP and, in fact, this method of detection is favored because it is several times as sensitive as precipitation with the C-polysaccharide. The capillary tube serum technic of CRP test was performed on the 122 prostitutes¢¥ serums (age: 20-30, 60 positive and 62 negative serums for STS). The results obtained are as follows:
1. Authors were able to detect the CRP in 15 per cent positive, in 16.7 per cent doubtful, and in 83.33 per cent negative of 60 serum samples from the positive for STS.
2. Authors detected the CRP in 4. 84 per cent positive, in 1. 61 per cent doubtful, and 93. 55 per cent negative of 62 serum samples from the negative for STS.
3. In the serums obtained from prostitutes, the incidence of positive in the CRP precipitation test was an average of 10 per cent.
4. Different results of CRP precipitation test were observed between two groups of STS
